Let’s be honest for a minute: The Sanderson sisters aren’t exactly known for their love of children. (It probably has something to do with the fact that they spend the majority of their time trying to steal their youth every chance they get, but hey, that’s just one person’s opinion.) Ironically, the name Winifred is said to mean “holy, blessed reconciliation,” or “joy and peace.” (Apparently, this Winnie didn’t get that memo.) Additionally, Winifred was the name of a martyred Welsh princess sometimes referred to as the patron saint of virgins. Perhaps that’s why the Black Flame Candle required a virgin? It was Winifred who cast the spell, after all.
